A letter to my baby at 5 weeks pregnant

October 31, 2017

I learned about you yesterday. I went to the doctor for a check up, and when she came in the room and said, “My dear…” I knew. I’ve been dreaming of you for so long. Practically my whole life. And now you’re here, inside me.

Who are you? A little boy or a little girl? Who will you be? What will you enjoy? What lessons will you teach us? What gifts are already growing in your little heart and brain?

I told your daddy about you last night on a pizza. I wrote a message in pepperoni. We laughed about it, and I hope we always do. Pizza has always been a special part of our lazy Sundays together, so it felt like the right medium to me. Pretty soon, you’ll be here for lazy Sundays, too. I hope you like watching Netflix.

I can’t see you or feel you, but I already love you. At work, I sneak away to the bathroom to put my hands on my tummy and whisper, “I love you, I love you, I love you” over and over. Can you hear me? Can you feel my love? It’s swirling all through me, and all around you.

  1. Jillian! This is beautiful! With every day that passes, I get that much more anxious and excited to meet the little boy growing inside of you! He’s so lucky to be so loved already :)
